The Kootenai National Forest has moved to a High fire danger rating.
However, now is no time to be complacent with any campfires or warming fires utilized while out recreating or hunting. Please be vigilant with your campfires and put them out!
Before going to bed or leaving your site, use the Drown, Stir, Feel method to extinguish your fire. Use a bucket, the one you brought with you, and fill with water. Drown your fire. Next, use the shovel that you also brought, and stir the water into the hot ashes. Now, use the back of your hand and feel for heat. If necessary, drown and stir again until all the fire is out cold. You should not be able to feel any heat from your fire.
Friendly reminder, especially with the chilly nights approaching, before leaving to hunt, recreate or travel, please extinguish your warming fires so firefighters don’t have too.
Smokey says, “If it’s too hot to touch, It’s too hot to leave!”.
