Sanders County Wildland Fire Information Update

SCWFI Update - 11 a.m., September 2, 2022

From the Cabinet Ranger District:

A dry lightning storm (meaning a storm with little or no precipitation) in the Noxon/Heron area Wednesday night started several wildfires on the Cabinet Ranger District of the Kootenai National Forest including the following:

Government Fire-   Government mountain area.  42 acres currently with multiple aircraft, engines and one hot shot crew assigned.

West Billiard Fire – Billiard Table mountain area.   About 3 acres. Smoke jumpers and one engine assigned. The West Billiard fire is near Billiard Table mountain in the Scotchmans range near the Idaho Montana border.

North Star Fire - Star Peak area. About 10 to 15 acres.  Aircraft assigned. North Star fire is in the same area a couple miles south of the West Billiard Fire.

Isabella Lake Fire –  Near St. Paul Lake in the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness. About 5 acres. Aircraft assigned.

Area closures are planned in wildfire areas, and the public is asked to please avoid these wildfire activity areas. This includes portions of the Rock Creek road, Government Mountain road (No. 150) and Chicago Peak road (No. 2741).

Because of Idaho’s Columbus and Bear Gulch fires, the following closures are already in effect:  Trail 774 East Fork Trout Creek, Trail 763 Black Peak Trail from Chute Gulch 761 to the Idaho Border.  Roads 2258, 152, 2262 are closed.   Trail 731 Dixie Peak Trail is closed.

As stated above, additional closures are being considered, please avoid wildfire areas until suppression activities are completed.
