U.S. Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) received an award from the Montana Farm Bureau for his work in supporting the state's agriculture sector, according to a news release.

The award was given to him while he was at a ranch outside of Belgrade for the purpose of announcing new testing guidelines for brucellosis, according to the news release. He was joined at the meeting by U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Under Secretary Greg Ibach, as well as several state leaders.

Montana agriculture leaders, the Montana Stockgrowers Association, the Montana Farm Bureau Federation, the U.S. Cattlemen's Association and other stakeholders were also in attendance.

The new testing guidelines were created to hopefully eradicate the disease that has impacted the state, ranchers and agriculture. Before these guidelines were created, researchers were only able to study animals that were already infected with the disease in an indoor facility that was contained, which limited their ability to study livestock and wildlife, according to the news release.
