Kalispell Public Schools recently released the results of tests for lead at Hedges Elementary School, according to a news release on Montana.gov.
Test results show that there are several locations within Hedges Elementary School that exceed the lead standards and will require remediation. Kalispell Public Schools plans to complete all improvements to become compliant with state rules by late August.
The new Lead in School Drinking Water rule requires Montana schools to test all fixtures that may be used for human consumption for lead and to overhaul any fixtures that exceed the amount of lead set by the state's new health-based standards for school water systems.
“We take the health and safety of our students and staff very seriously and will take the necessary actions to remediate lead in our school’s drinking water,” said Kalispell Public Schools Superintendent Micah Hill.
All present and future lead test results for Kalispell Public Schools will be posted on the school district's website. Parents will also receive a letter and/or email concerning these results.
