Missoula County is delaying mobile home and personal property tax payments to offer county residents flexibility during the financial crisis from the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Tuesday, county commissioners asked the treasurer's office to delay the property tax payments through July, according to the Missoulian. Chief administrative officer Vickie Zeier showed in a series of spreadsheets that the school district, which relies on property taxes, wouldn't be significantly impacted by the delay.
"It looks like from those spreadsheets that we saw that this isn't going to have a big impact on those schools and that we could go ahead and do this," commissioner Josh Slotnick said at the meeting, according to the paper.
Gov. Steve Bullock and the Montana Department of Revenue are also considering waiving any penalties and interest on property taxes, according to the Missoulian. If this is the case, county operations could receive a negative impact from larger companies in the area delaying their property tax payments.
