State Sen. Al Olszewski (R-Kalispell) has his sights on the highest office in the state.
But first, the veteran legislator faces Congressman Greg Gianforte and two-term Attorney General Tim Fox in the Republican primary. According to one early poll conducted by Montana State University Billings, Olszewski, an orthopedic surgeon, is third behind Gianforte and Fox. The GOP primary election is on June 2, 2020.
The state senator believes that there are still plenty of undecided Republican voters, shrugging off chatter that he may abandon his campaign to join Gianforte’s.

“I’m fighting for governor,” Olszewski told the Montana Free Press. “I’m in this game to win it. I am not going to peel off and become arm candy for Congressman Gianforte.”
He opposes the Confederated Salish and Kootenai water compact, which both sides of the Montana’s congressional delegation and the Trump administration support the ratification of. He fears the compact would deprive more than 300,000 Montanans access to water.
