Kootenai National Forest Fire Update:

The most recent lightning event produced 14 new fire starts on 8/31/22. The Kootenai Dispatch Center mobilized local, neighboring, and regional resources to each of the starts. Fire names, size, locations, and status are as follows:

Everett Fire .1 acres Ziegler Mountain Area Fire controlled on 9/2/22 in patrol status

Cheer Creek .25 acres Bear Creek Area Fire is contained 9/3/22

Bear Creek 1.0 acres Bear Creek Area Fire controlled on 9/2/22 patrol status

Copper Creek 5.0 acres McConnell Mountain Fire is lined, approx.: 50 resources assigned

Doe Creek .1 acres Doe Creek Controlled on 9/1/22 Patrol Status

Isabella Lake* 10 acres St. Paul area (D7) Will be incorporated (part of  Bull Gin Complex) 

 Closure Order in place 

Schrieber Lake .1 acres Schrieber Lake Fire out on 9/2/22

Williams Creek 1.6 acres Williams Creek (D5) Fire contained 9/2/22 resources assigned

Upper Schrieber .1 acres Coyote Creek Fire Controlled 9/2/22 Patrol Status

Government* 110 acres Government Mtn. IMT-T3 assigned (part of Bull Gin Complex) 

 Type2 IMT on order. Closure Order in place

Brush Creek .1 acres Preacher Mountain Called out on 9/3/22

Billiard* 50 acres Billiard Creek (D7) Resources on scene/assigned(part of Bull Gin 

 Complex

Dunn .1 acres Dunn Creek (NWSLU) Controlled 9/1/22 Patrol Status

North Star* 70 acres Star Peak (D7) Resources on scene (part of the Bull Gin 

 Complex)

*Due to complexities and proximity the Isabella Lake, Government, Billiard, and the North Star fires have been combined into a complex for the incoming Type -2 Incident Management Team. All updates for these fires will be referenced in the Bull Gin Complex updates.

Closure orders are in effect for public and firefighter safety. Please see attached closure orders pertaining to trail/road closures.

The Kootenai National Forest and the Idaho Panhandle have joint closures in effect due to the Columbus and the Bear Gulch fires burning on neighboring lands.(IDPF National Forest) These closures include the East Fork of Trout Creek Drainage, trail 763, Upper Big Beaver Creek Road 152, Trail #731, and road 2262 off the 152 Big Beaver Creek Road.

~Smoke in the Kootenai and Clark Fork Valley is comprised of fires from Idaho, California, Washington, and Oregon being transported into Northwest Montana.
